Chef Assistant

Exempt classification: Part-time 

Pay rate: $23/hr 

Benefits: Paid holidays, PTO and sick leave

Location: Soquel

Shift times: 

Sunday from 10am- 5:00pm 

Monday from 3:00pm-8:00 pm 

Tuesday from 3:00pm-8:00 pm 

Wednesday from 3:00pm-8:00 pm 

Overtime rates apply 

Responsibilities 

  • Work with a team of professionals and teens to make and package delicious, nutritious and beautiful meals 
  • Assist with kitchen operations including: kitchen set-up, cleaning throughout shift, assisting hired teens and volunteers with basic cooking skills, and kitchen clean up at the end of the shift 
  • Strict adherence to food safety and sanitation guidelines 
  • Support a culture of youth ownership and leadership 

Qualifications 

  • ServeSafe Food Handlers 
  • Line Cook, large-scale catering, and/or commissary kitchen experience preferred 
  • Close attention to timing 
  • Capacity for mentoring and teaching 
  • Ability to stay calm and keep your sense of humor in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment 
  • Good awareness of self 
  • Ability and desire to be in a work environment that values working as a team, relationships and giving and receiving honest feedback. 
  • Ability to communicate warmly and clearly 
  • Preference given to applicants who are bilingual 
  • Preference given to applicants with culinary arts degree 

Physical requirements: 

  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist and turn. 
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds. 
  • Work environment is primarily indoors with the majority of time spent in a busy production kitchen or sitting at a desk.

Delivery Driver

Job description 

Position Title: Delivery Driver  

Reports to: Client Services Manager 

Start date: Immediately
Non-Exempt classification: part-time; 18+ hours/ week 

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 11:00am-3:30pm
Thursday: 10:00am-3:30pm 

Occasional opportunities for additional hours
Locations: Throughout Santa Cruz County 

Pay Rate: $20/hour 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Delivery Driver will pick up meals from our kitchen in Soquel and deliver them to either clients’ homes throughout Santa Cruz County or our pick-up locations in Aptos and Watsonville. Occasionally, the Delivery Driver will pick up donated produce in Watsonville and unload and put away the produce in our kitchen in Soquel. The Delivery Driver will work under our Delivery Dispatcher and will interface directly with our clients to ensure all meals are delivered safely. The Delivery Driver will be trained in HIPAA. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Utilize the company van stored in Aptos to pick up and deliver meals from our kitchen in Soquel on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 
  • Responsible for meal distribution to Delivery Angels in Watsonville. 
  • Take instructions from and communicate with our Delivery Dispatcher to ensure the accurate number and type of meals are picked up, and that they are delivered to the correct address. 
  • Troubleshoot with client and/or Volunteer Manager when clients are not available for pick up. 
  • Pick up eggs and deliver to kitchen. 
  • Pick up produce from Lakeside Organics and process it in the kitchen. Processing would not involve cleaning or preparing food. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A commitment to Teen Kitchen Project’s Mission and Operating Principles 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written 
  • Required to use Onfleet app for mapping and delivery logistics 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced collaborative environment 
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred 
  • Valid California driver’s license and excellent driving record 
  • Background check required
